Purchases & Upgrades

This page is the most efficient way for me to document and share all the details that have gone into making my Navion a comfortable home away from home. The products listed below are a collection of purchases I've made for my 2018 Winnebago Navion J. Most are common purchases by many View/Navion owners, but now they are all linked in one place.
Based on researching the various brands and versions available of each product, and after months of use, I can confidently recommend these specific makes/models. In some cases, I bought a different (inferior) version first, but this page represents only the preferred products I'm using now.
These are a life-saver when boondocking. They are 5.3 gallons each, and I carry four. They are lightweight, collapse flat and are very durable (double walled). I carry them between the front seats when I want to extend my dry camping (by dumping or pumping the water into my fresh water tank when it gets low).
I love this hose! It’s very light and folds up with ease (there’s no need to loop it like a traditional hose). It’s rated for marine / RV fresh water use and has officially replaced my original Camco white hose.
I have several of these brass quick connects on my hoses and fittings. Very high quality and they have never leaked. Most useful place for these is on either end of the fresh water hose.
This replacement water pump is identical to the OEM “F65” version (with the exception of the white OEM connector plug). This “A65” version comes in a simple brown box (typically sent straight to RV manufacturers). The “E65” version is identical, but comes in a colorful retail box. The pump itself is the same in all versions.
Since the city water pressure varies in each campground, a water pressure regulator will save your plumbing from a high pressure blowout.
A water flow meter counts the gallons of water entering your RV. Example of use: if your fresh water tank is empty, and you determine you want to take on no more than 12 gallons (100 lbs.), you can watch the flow and stop when you reach the desired number in gallons (similar to a gas pump).
These work great filtering the city water before it enters your RV plumbing or tanks. Be sure to connect to the supply and flush water through them first before connecting the hose to the RV.
I keep this attached to the fresh water inlet in the service bay at all times with a quick connect on the opposite end. When I’m ready to hook up to city water, I drop the open end through the hole in the service bay and connect to my hose with a quick connect.
I use one of these on either side of my water pressure regulator and filter. I leave them all attached together at all times so I can store and retrieve the whole “chain” as a single unit.
This device connects any hose to unthreaded faucets or those with stripped threads. It’s a life-saver if you need to fill your fresh water tank and your hose won’t connect to the hook-up for either of these reasons.
This tool helps with the annual maintenance of your water heater tank. Attach this wand to a garden hose and insert into drain opening. It lifts and cleans the sediment that collects at the bottom of your water heater, extending its life. Includes shut off valve.
If you fill your fresh water tank via the gravity fill, this makes the job easier. This pigtail attaches to the end of your water hose and the clear plastic tube slips into the gravity fill hole.
Adding this with a “T” anywhere on your cold water line keeps a constant pressure in both your hot and cold lines, eliminating the pulsing from the pump. The pump then pressurizes this tank whenever it gets low. For installation details, click here.
This is flexible and lightweight garden hose is dedicated for the black tank flush (San-T-Flush is the model on my rig). I store it in a dedicated plastic bin in a driver side basement bay.
Game changer! Only wish I did it sooner. With the push of a button, I can dump my black tank and be assured with a visual indicator that the valve closes completely after dumping. To see details about my install, click here.
This is the standard waste tank valve common on many motorhomes. Over time, the seals can become dirty, sticky and even blocked with debris causing a leaky seal when closed. Mine was getting difficult to operate despite occasional lubrication, so I proactively replaced it when it was 5 years old. For installation details, click here.
If your gray or black tank valves ever failed, this valve would save the day! It twists on where the sewer cap normally goes and provides a final valve before your sewer hose. I don’t keep this installed, but it’s one of the few “emergency” items that I carry.
This flexible coupler connects 3” sewer fittings under the motorhome. Over time, they become dry and cracked and can eventually leak (you can visually check them easily). I replaced mine proactively at 5 years old. For installation details, click here.
This 20’ version of the best-in-class RhinoFlex sewer hose is actually two 10’ sections. I upgraded to this version because my prior 15’ RhinoFlex hose was almost always too long. Now, I have a shorter (10’) version most of the time, and a longer 10’ extension when needed. The clear elbow is helpful in monitoring the status of the job at hand. The quality of the fittings will give you confidence that the seals are tight.
I leave this 5’ section attached to my 10’ section and two fittings. I only use the length that I need. I keep the extra 10’ section (that was included in the 20’ package) as a backup. Great combination!
If you have the RhinoFlex sewer hose, you need one of these! It extends the clear elbow and allows you to securely reach the orange 4-in-1 adaptor in a recessed dump station.
Have you ever had a hard time unscrewing the cap on a sewer cleanout plug at a campground? Or has your threaded RhinoFLEX adaptor ever been hard to remove from the sewer connection? This 6-in-1 wrench solves all of these problems and more. Check out this video from the Amazon product page for more info.
Have you ever struggled to twist off the RV sewer cap when dumping? This product replaces the original sewer connection cap. The built-in handle gives you the leverage that the original cap was lacking. This should have been standard!
This product helps keep the sewer hose off the ground and oriented in a downward sloping position toward the campground’s sewer connection. I only use this when at a full-hookup site for more than one night.

Alternative version: Valterra Adjustable Hose Carrier
This is one of my favorite products — it keeps the unsanitary sewer hose on the outside of the RV while simultaneously freeing up space in the basement bays for other things. For a step-by-step installation of this product, click here to see the mod in position.
As a final touch to the installation of the D&W Sewer Hose Carrier, I’d recommend clipping these small stainless carabiners in the latch holes in either side of the carrier to ensure the doors never open unintentionally.
I replaced the Culligan under-sink water filter with this model which is a much more powerful system; it reduces 99% lead, 99% microbial cysts, 97% chlorine taste & odor, 0.5 microns of sand, sediment, rust & soil.
This water-saver valve connects to the shower head hose and operates much more easily than the valve built-in to the shower head.
This check valve helps solve the problem of a full fresh water tank spilling out the side of the RV. This goes on the “vent” line and still allows air to come in, but won’t let water to go out.
The water heater drain plug is one of the lowest points in the plumbing system. If it leaks or fails, the hot water heater tank will drain, and the water pump will try to replenish it from your fresh water tank. This is the compatible back-up for the 6-gallon Atwood water heater.
This product is like a fuel gauge for your house batteries! It will accurately track your battery level in a percentage by calculating all amps going in (charge) and out (load) of your house batteries. For a detailed description of installation, click here.
This device is a diagnostic scan tool that connects to your OBDII port. It can display dozens of engine parameters including real-time fuel consumption, cost-per-mile, coolant temp, engine temp, horsepower, and most importantly error codes if/when your check engine light illuminates.
This small module mounts on the bottom/center of your propane tank and sends an accurate level reading to your smartphone via Bluetooth. You’ll never have to guess again how much propane you have left!
I recently upgraded to this incredible inverter/charger/transfer switch. I have it wired as a whole-house inverter that runs every outlet and appliance (including the microwave and air conditioner). The 150a charger can charge my 210ah Lithium battery bank from 30% to 100% in less than an hour! And it seamlessly transfers power to/from shore power or generator when you connect/disconnect.
This Bluetooth-enabled remote panel connects to the inverter with an included 6-pin cable. The remote panel allows you to view and manage all of the functions of the inverter/charger. It also includes a Bluetooth module that connects to a smart phone app that also allows you to view/manage all of the inverter’s functions and settings.
This DC/DC charger gets installed under the passenger seat when you upgrade to Lithium. It limits the current between the alternator and the house batteries. For details about installation, click here.
I replaced my 30 amp Zamp solar charge controller with this 50 amp Victron version. It supports more watts of solar and uses a more efficient method (MPPT instead of PWM) to capture the sun.
This is a replacement for the propane detector that comes with the RV. After 60 months, they need to be replaced. If not, they will start beeping until replaced. I did it proactively 59 months after the RV left the factory. This model includes a built-in CO alarm as well.
Adding this Bluetooth module to your awning’s wiring enables several new useful functions; remote control of your awning from your phone/tablet, dimmable LED light and auto-retraction with wind sensor. For detailed installation instructions, click here to see the mod.
These tail lights are an optional replacement of the OEM vertical tail lights on the back of the coach. In addition to a brake light, they can simultaneously be wired to be blinkers (and therefore hazard lights).
This insulating cover is used to protect the Victron BMV-712 Battery Monitor’s shunt. It’s not required for the installation, but it’s a perfect fit and it will protect the shunt’s wiring from touching anything else inside the battery compartment.
An Electrical Management System (EMS) is one of the top 5 most important things I’ve purchased. Without some kind of EMS, there’s no way to know the quality of power at a campground’s electrical post. It detects open ground, open neutral, reverse polarity, high/low voltage as well as provides accidental 240V and A/C frequency protection. To see how/where to install, click here. For the portable version, click here.
This add-on to the Progressive Industries EMS enables a second remote/monitor to be connected to the same EMS. I have one remote/monitor outside in the electrical bay which helps immediately indicate whether I have “clean” power upon plugging in. The second remote/monitor is mounted inside the RV to help budget the amps used at any one time. To see how/where to install, click here.
www.dyersonline.com/coleman-mach-blu-tooth-wall-thermostat.html
If your existing OEM thermostat looks identical, then this is a plug-and-play replacement that adds the functionality of Bluetooth control via a smart phone app! This should work for all Coleman-Mach units with heat pump. For more details about which model to choose, click here.
This dimmer is compatible with the OEM LED lights. It does, however, require additional wiring and a larger hole. For more info about installation, see this step-by-step guide.
My 2018 Navion came pre-wired with a 100w Zamp panel, Zamp controller and a 3-way port on the roof. This 170w panel expands the system easily and keeps the same brand of hardware throughout the entire solar system.
Click here to email Leonard Casella who builds and sells this mod.
This mod reduces the electrical draw that the Propane Solenoid Valve uses by at least 80%. It’s an additional switch that you add which allows you to turn the mod on and off. Since I have a 3-way refrigerator, I need to have my propane valve open 24/7 when boondocking. Instead of using 20Ah a day to keep the propane valve open, this mod uses approximately 5Ah a day total, a savings of 15Ah.
I’ve used this when driveway-camping and the main RV cord wasn’t long enough to reach the outlet. If you run any high amperage equipment like the air conditioner, you want to use a thick gauge cord all the way to the outlet.
This adaptor connects a 50 amp post at a campground to the 30 amp shore power cord attached to the RV. Sometimes a campground only has a site available with 50 amp service, in which case this adaptor will come in handy.
This adaptor converts your 30 amp shore power cord to a household outlet.
This is useful to keep in the cabinet behind the TV for electronics such as a printer, Apple TV, Roku and/or Blu-ray player. Its primary purpose is to add available electrical outlets for the devices since there’s only one outlet available otherwise.
The stock boost solenoid is known to go bad, which then restricts the charging of your batteries. This is the recommended replacement. I carry it as a spare since my stock solenoid is still working.
Ready to replace the factory clown horn? Look no further! This twin tone electric horn makes your presence known if/when you need to get someone’s attention. To listen to the horn and get details about installation, click here.
These bulbs are one of many brands that serve as a direct replacement of the factory halogen headlight bulbs. The key is to buy an “H7” size bulb. This pack of 2 is bright and was very easy to replace. It’s best practice to replace both headlight bulbs, even when only one burns out.
Underwhelmed by your reverse lights when backing in at night? These are BRIGHT LEDs! They are direct replacements for the Mercedes Sprinter's reverse lights with no adaptor needed. They take less than a minute each to replace (accessed from behind the reverse light fixture under the bumper).
I installed this in my control center on the positive wire of my Zamp solar controller. I use the breaker as a switch so that I can turn off my solar any time (without climbing on the roof and unplugging all three panels). The primary occasions I turn off my solar is if my speakers are buzzing mid-day and I’m watching a movie, or if I’m working on my batteries and I need to shut off all power.
This 49.5w high speed charger will charge your phone and USB-C compatible laptop in record time — and without the use of your inverter. For Mac users with a late 2016 or newer MacBook Pro, just unplug the white USB-C cable from the white charging block and plug the cable directly into this device.
This is a plug-and-play replacement of the USB port that Winnebago installed above the dinette and above the bed. This version has two USB ports, displays battery voltage and charges at twice the speed of the OEM version. I installed two of these in the area behind the TV above the galley sink (there were none in this area prior).
This is a plug-and-play replacement of the USB port that Winnebago installed above the dinette and above the bed. This version only has one USB port, but it charges at twice the speed. It also features an on/off switch and a voltage reading (when switched in the on position).
This is one of the top 5 most useful items I’ve purchased. Without a TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System), there’s no way to know the air pressure or temperature of your tires while driving. This link is for the 6 wheel / 6 sensor version.
These metal valves replace the factory valves, allowing easy access to check the tire pressure on all four of the dually wheels. These also provide the ability to add on a TPMS.
This is a powerful and relatively small 12v air compressor that connects directly to the house batteries under the steps. With my TPMS and this compressor, I have peace of mind that my tires are always properly inflated.
When inflating my tires, I like to have a manual gauge to cross-reference that my tires are properly inflated (to 61 psi). This gauge is accurate, reliable and capable of reading pressures in that psi range.
These tire covers (30-32” size) fit the View/Navion wheels snuggly and will help protect the tires from sun, dirt, corrosion and all types of weather while your rig is parked.
If you need to lift the rig for any reason, especially the back wheels since they are connected to both the parking and emergency brake, it’s best to chock the wheels. I’ve only used these once, but I’m glad I have them if/when the need arises.
This is an additional sensor for the TPMS system that I use for the spare tire. Monitoring the spare helps ensure that it never has a failure (i.e. ruptured by road debris) and its psi reading while driving also serves as a lower psi / cooler temp baseline for the other six tires on the road.
I always carry a spare set of batteries for the TPMS sensors. The sensor batteries are supposed to be replaced annually, but if they die sooner, I’ll be back up and running in minutes.
This is a great tool to remove / replace your simulators (for those of us that have the steel wheels). I use the rubber hammer every thousand miles or so to ensure that the simulators on the front wheels aren’t working themselves loose.
This Norcold 2175 (DC compressor) is a direct replacement of the Norcold 3150 (3-way) commonly found on 2013-2018 View/Navions. It fits the same "hole" in the RV, though inside it is deeper and 1 cubic square foot larger with a pull-out freezer drawer.
Without one of these, there’s no way to know if your refrigerator and freezer are consistently keeping your food at safe temperatures. The correct target’s are mid-30’s F in the fridge and around 0 F in the freezer.
I have two of these thermometers in my refrigerator, one on the top shelf and the other at the bottom. They help illustrate the range of temperatures. The red “safe” zone on the gauge is helpful in quickly determining the appropriate settings/temps.
Looking for an organizer that is a perfect fit for the top (shallow) drawer of the galley? This set of two is it! They are adjustable and are just the right height. Both are included in the set, and both fit together in the top drawer. Want to add a light? Click here to check out my mod.
I was considering replacing my entire faucet to gain some missing functionality — but this small mod goes a long way! It swivels on a pivot to allow you to rinse out the sink, and it also has a sprayer function with a small twist of the head. Color is a perfect match too!
I installed two of these (one at each sink). It’s a small detail, but it makes my home on wheels seem even more like home. I no longer need to put away the soap before I drive. To see photos of the installation and for step-by-step instructions, click here.
At 800w, this coffee maker runs perfectly on the 1000w inverter without needing your generator or shore power. It runs for 3-4 minutes per cup then turns itself off, so it uses limited energy.
Looking for the ultimate coffee/tea mug that will keep hot beverages hot for 6 hours and cold beverages cold for 24 hours? This is it! It’s expensive, but is very impressive in design, materials and function. I have two, one “black” and one “stone” color.
This igniter replaces the loud and difficult-to-use mechanical igniter that comes with the propane stove. This is one of the least expensive and simple mods that really makes a difference in the kitchen. I installed mine from below by removing the drawers and unscrewing the wooden “ceiling” in the drawer compartment. Just unplug the old one and plug in the new one (2 x AAA batteries required).
This is the coolest (and easiest) wine opener I’ve ever owned! No pulling, no twisting, no more broken corks. With the magic of compressed air, the cork is pushed out from the inside out. Each cartridge opens 50 bottles.
This sliding trash can fits below the sink and rolls out for easy access. It works with any brand of 30-liter or larger trash bags.
This matches and fits next to the sliding trash can under the sink. I use this to hold cleaning supplies, extra paper towels, the box of trash bags, etc.
This drying rack is of the highest quality and allows dishes to dry straight into the sink. The rack slats are flat instead of rounded which makes items more secure while drying. Rolls up for easy storage and is available in several colors.
Great for mixing salads, but is lightweight and takes up very little space when stored.
These are perfect to store and chill homemade juices, nut milks, etc. They are high quality and fit in the refrigerator door.
This is a stylish, lightweight yet durable 18-piece porcelain dinnerware set. They are dishwasher-safe, freezer-safe, and microwave-safe.
I use these felt plate separators to silence any movement of my porcelain plates & bowls when driving down the road. Works like a charm! This 48 piece set includes 12 dinner plate dividers, 24 dessert/salad plate dividers and 12 saucer dividers.
This set of 4 nesting bowls is a great multi-purpose set. The smaller bowls are great for serving chips and dips, while the larger bowls can hold fresh fruit and vegetables. Very well made, clean easy and store nested.
THE GRIPSTIC is a reusable sealing rod locks air and moisture out to prevent your chips, pretzels, snacks, cereal from going stale, prevents freezer burn and keeps food fresh longer.
This is a high quality frying pan with a scratch-resistant surface that is PFOA-free. With the handle removed, it fits just about anywhere you choose to store it.
Fits in the convention oven perfectly with almost no room to spare, allowing the largest surface area possible for baking. Perfect for baking pizza, cookies, cinnamon rolls, etc.
If you need a vegetable peeler, this is the best one I’ve used.
This is a high-quality, doubled-sided cutting board crafted from nonporous, odor resistant, durable polypropylene. It measures 10.5” by 14.5” and fits upright underneath the kitchen sink.
I wish I had these sooner! They are adjustable in length and create a barrier so items don’t slide off the refrigerator shelves after driving. I use two of these in my 3-way fridge. The length of the adjustable bar is perfect since the bar is close to its shortest length when installed.
I use one of these in my fridge on the middle shelf where I keep the tallest items. The length of the adjustable bar is perfect since the bar is close to its shortest length when installed in my 3-way fridge.
This is one of my top 5 purchases. If you have a Norcold 3-way refrigerator, this is a must-have! It not only keeps the air flow and temperatures even throughout the fridge, it does so by blowing the warmest air over the fins, which eliminates ice build up. With the light and all three fans turned on, it draws less than .3 amps. As a bonus, I now get proper cooling on a much lower fridge setting.
This sway bar replaces the thinner and less effective factory sway bar. Since the motorhome is taller and heavier than many other applications of the stock chassis, this upgrade helps reduce the rocking motion and body roll. Click here for a detailed analysis of this upgrade. NOTE: If you have a 2020 model year or newer, you need this version.
I added these rear shocks, kept my Hellwig sway bar and removed my rear Sumos (putting the stock bump stops back in place). This now feels like the perfect rear suspension combination! It’s controlled, smooth and quiet (relative to the noise and vibration of rear Sumos). Very happy! Click here for a detailed analysis of these shocks.
These are the SumoSprings that I originally added to the front (Model: SSF-106-40). They come in two color-coded stiffness levels for the front, and this is the most commonly recommended version. If you’re looking for the stiffer black version for the front (Model: SSF-106-47), click here. I have since removed them in favor of the new shocks, but the SumoSprings remain very popular on the Sprinter chassis.
These are the SumoSprings that I originally added to the rear (Model: SSR-338-47). They come in two color-coded stiffness levels for the front, and this is the most commonly recommended version. If you’re looking for the stiffer yellow version for the rear (Model: SSR-338-54), click here. I have since removed them in favor of the new shocks, but the SumoSprings remain very popular on the Sprinter chassis.
I mounted this solar powered motion light with VHB tape on the outside rear wall of the RV. It points down at my bike rack and is shockingly bright at night! My hope is that the light (combined with the backup camera above it) makes a thieve think twice.
This pair of table lamps makes the RV feel warm, cozy and more like “home”. The lamps have 4 brightness levels and various sleep timers, all controlled by the included remote controls. They take 3 AA batteries each or you can plug in via USB.
This moon lamp is a really nice edition to the small environment of an RV. It’s very lightweight, USB-rechargeable and you can choose any one of 16 colors (as well as brightness) all from a remote control.
I’ve installed these LED strip lights under my counters and dinette floor as well as behind the top of my slide. They add a nice warm glow and are easy to install via an adhesive back. Cut to length.
This dimmer is compatible with the OEM LED lights. It does, however, require additional wiring and a larger hole. For more info about installation, see this step-by-step guide.
I used these switches in my galley drawers to automatically activate the drawer lights I added. To learn more about this mod, click here.
I use these in my wardrobe closet, cabinet over the stove and in the basement storage bays. It’s very useful to have motion-sensor lights illuminate each and every cabinet within the RV. USB-rechargeable. The brand is OxyLED and the color is “pure white”, though when I ordered them they were “warm white” (which I prefer).
I use these above my bathroom sink, in the medicine cabinet, in my cabinets above the dinette, under the bed storage, and one near the side-door entry. The brand is OxyLED and the color is “pure white”, though when I ordered them they were “warm white” (which I prefer).
These candles are a beautiful — and safe — addition to the mood lighting inside the RV. They are made of real wax and take two AA batteries (each). The set includes 9 dimmable candles in varying heights (as pictured).
Count to 10 and this chair is unfolded and ready for you to relax! Sturdy, intelligent design that is a delight to setup and stow. And it's comfortable! Best of all, it folds up incredibly small.
Unlike most rocking chairs, you can swing on any surface, even rocky, sandy, or uneven ground. The auto-reclining feature provides the perfect sitting angle simply by leaning back and shifting your body weight. The chair weighs 7 lbs., has a weight limit of 300 lbs. and comes with a Lifetime Warranty.
www.campingworld.com/original-quik-fold-table-charcoal
I have three of these tables to set down drinks or snacks when sitting outside. They fold flat and are lightweight yet sturdy. They fit under the J bed storage area along with four chairs.
These LED tiki torches look real! Their internal batteries are charged all day by the integrated flat solar panel on top, and the lights automatically turn on at night. A total of 96 LEDs create a flickering flame effect that is impressively real. Their height can range from 12-36” depending on your chosen configuration of included poles.
www.campingworld.com/reversible-trellis-design-patio-mats
No patio is complete without a patio mat. This size folds easily and stores in the compartment under the J bed (accessible from the outside door). I choose the black/gray color scheme to match the RV and chairs.
The classic game of corn hole in a lightweight, collapsible package.
One of my top 10 upgrades! This is a large 10.1" Kenwood stereo head unit with RV-aware Garmin maps, CarPlay and Android Auto. The screen is stunning and the features are rich. I had it professionally installed and they installed an interface so the steering wheel controls still work. Don't believe the Amazon reviews — this unit is top notch!
I installed two of these to work with my new Kenwood DNR1008RVS head unit. One is for the backup camera, and the other for a front-facing camera. The are 1080p HD and look fantastic on the Kenwood screen.
This works! It turns a 1 or 2 bar unreliable cell signal into a usable connection! Before install, I spent 8 days in a State Park and could barely get data out or phone calls in. I installed this and returned to the same campground and I had a solid and reliable cell connection! Very impressed.
After researching dozens of weather stations and buying 5, this is far and away my favorite. I hard-wired it into the RV’s 12v power so that it doesn’t require the inverter. For more details about its features and my step-by-step installation guide, click here.
I installed this “whole house” alarm system in my rig after getting broken into while parked in storage; this alarm system is a fraction of the cost of what was stolen. The loud siren is a deterrent and thanks to my RV Wi-Fi, I’ll be alerted on my phone the moment any door or compartment is breached.
I installed this Echo Dot above the galley, hard-wiring it into the RV’s 12vdc electrical system. It’s a fun addition that works perfectly with my Ring Alarm System and my Wi-Fi network. Custom-created routines make my RV a Smart RV!
After much research, I decided on this make/model, and I’m very happy with this purchase. In the event of an accident, hit and run, brake check gone wrong or even a mishap when your RV is parked and unattended, this camera will archive the moment and their license plate. Click here for more information about the installation of this camera.
In order to capture video while parked, you’ll need to hard-wire the camera into the RV. Though you can technically modify the USB cable included with the camera, this specialized cable + module hard-wires the camera directly into the 12v fuse box with both a “battery” and “accessory” power connection. In this way, the camera knows when the RV is parked and unattended (ignition key is removed). Click here for more information about the installation of this cable.
It’s important to get both a fast and high capacity SD card for your dash cam. This one meets both requirements. It records several hours of footage before the camera automatically loops and records over the oldest footage.
I use this wireless router connected to an old iPhone to provide Wi-Fi 24/7 inside the RV. For more info on how I set this up, click here.
If you have an iPhone or iPad, this adaptor allows you to view Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, photos, etc., from your mobile device straight to your TV’s HDMI input. Also required is a short HDMI cable.
Apple TV is a great way to stream any show on iTunes, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video directly to both TVs. The remote is bluetooth, so it doesn’t require line-of-sight. I keep my Apple TV in the cabinet above the kitchen sink (behind the TV).
I use this to mount the Apple TV on the back wall of the cabinet interior (behind the main TV). I originally had the Apple TV taking up space in the cabinet itself, but now that it’s up and out of the way, there’s more space for my printer and DVD/Blu-ray collection.
This device allows me to connect both my Apple TV and Blu-ray player to the main HDMI input of the RV. Simply press the button on the device to switch between the two sources. Works like a charm!
This printer is very small, wireless and prints with surprisingly high quality in both black & white and color. AirPrint is an Apple technology that wirelessly connects iPhones, iPads and Mac computers directly to this printer. I keep it in the cabinet above the kitchen sink (behind the TV).
This ink is compatible with the Canon iP110 Wireless Printer.
The two small speakers in this set of four replace the two over the dinette. One of the large 6” x 9” speakers replaces the “subwoofer” near the propane detector (underneath the closet). I added the fourth speaker in a new location. For installation details with photos, click here.
I have two of these, one for each 6x9 “subwoofer” in the house sound system. These are only necessary if you upgrade to the Kenwood component system just above. For install details, click here.
I replaced the two larger speakers (above the cabover bed) with this pair, and they make the house radio sound much better when combined with the other stereo mods I’ve done. I’m now in search of replacing the two smaller speakers over the dinette/couch. For installation details with photos, click here.
I installed a pair of these above the bed, and they sound amazing! I now have stereo speakers (with bass) when watching TV or a movie in bed. For installation details with photos, click here.
I added two of these amps under the kitchen sink (behind the house stereo). These are key to getting much better sound in the “house” — but ideally they are in combination with new speakers. For installation details with photos, click here.
I used just one of these speaker boxes when I added a 6” x 9” speaker to the forward side of my dinette (facing the driver’s seat). This box protects the speaker from the storage compartment underneath the seats. For installation details with photos, click here.
Looking for a premium upgrade to your exterior speakers? This is it! However, for them to work, you’ll need two things: 1” spacers and an amp (both listed on this site). These speakers are powerful and loud, but require a powered amp to function as intended. For installation details with photos, click here.
This pair of 1” spacers is required to mount the Polk Audio MM1 outdoor speakers. These spacers compensate for the shallow exterior wall, enabling the deeper speaker to fit in the same space. For installation details with photos, click here.
I upgraded all 4 speakers in the chassis/cab with this set from Kenwood. To get the best sound, you need to also add an amp + subwoofer. PLEASE NOTE: The large speakers in this kit require some modifications to the chassis door panels. For details about installation, click here.
The professionals at Street Sound Plus in Van Nuys, California built a custom housing for this 8” subwoofer and installed the box in the area just below and behind the two front seats. The whole floor of the RV rumbles with a clean and impressive low-frequency sound. For details about installation, click here.
The powered subwoofer requires an amp and this one gets the job done. The addition of this amp also provides more power to the 4 main speakers providing a rich and powerful sound system. For details about installation, click here.
I use two of these in my engine compartment to deter mice from building nests.
The Dyson V7 Car+Boat version of the popular cordless vacuum series includes 6 cleaning tools and a 12v charger (which allows you to charge it without turning on the inverter!). It also includes a standard 120v wall charger if you prefer.
In-between traditional RV washes, this is the best way I’ve found to wash and wax my rig, even when there’s no access to water! You can literally clean your entire rig when boondocking. It’s an amazing set of cleaning products, available on Amazon with a 5-star rating.
This is the refill to supplement the complete kit. It’s the best way I’ve found to wash and wax my rig, even when there’s no access to water! It’s an amazing product, available on Amazon with 2,300+ reviews and a 5-star rating.
This sponge is magic! It’s designed specifically to remove bugs, and it does so with very little effort. Even bugs that have been stuck for weeks will come off with surprisingly little scrubbing.
This is the approved product to clean the Duo Form Plastics shower.
This is the approved product to clean the Thetford ceramic toilet.
I use this to disinfect the campground fresh water handle and the various things I touch at the dump station (kills Norovirus in 1 minute).
Powerful UV blockers prevent fading, cracking and premature aging.
This is my favorite glass cleaner for any/all things glass! After you use this, you’ll never use Windex again! I use it both at home and in the RV.
I swear by this product — it truly keeps the black tank odorless. The only downside is the bottle tends to leak due to the potent chemical. I recommend storing it in the plastic bag that it ships in.
I like that this product is organic and it works great. While liquid and tablets are easier to add to the tank (versus this powder), it’s very effective and better for the environment. I rotate through black tank treatment options.
This is the go-to toilet paper for RVs. It’s a total of 48 rolls (12 x 4-packs). The same toilet paper is sold in Walmart (in their RV section of the store), but at $.79/roll, Amazon offers the best price available.
This is a trusted brand of DEF. Be sure it’s fresh and sealed before pouring! For tips on DEF, click here and scroll down.
This is the genuine Mercedes cabin air filter. You can remove and replace it in less than 30 seconds after you open your hood!
These are the OEM windshield wiper replacements.
This is the Mercedes-Benz recommended windshield washer fluid.
This is one of the approved Diesel generator oils for the Cummins Onan RV QD 3200 Diesel generator. PLEASE NOTE: do not use this if you have a LP / propane generator.
This is the approved fuel filter for the Cummins Onan RV QD 3200 Diesel generator. PLEASE NOTE: do not use this if you have a LP / propane generator.
This is the approved air filter for the Cummins Onan RV QD 3200 Diesel generator. PLEASE NOTE: do not use this if you have a LP / propane generator.
This is the preferred replacement to the OEM propane regulator. A common issue with the RV’s propane appliances is a failed propane regulator; buy this one instead of an exact replacement of the interior OEM make/model.
This works great to clean the hard to reach parts of the rig.
These applicators work great with the tire dressing (same company).
I bought these before I upgraded to HWH levelers, though I still carry them and occasionally deploy them under the jacks when parked in a severely un-level campsite.
For those that have HWH levelers, I highly recommend this addition. They install in seconds and allow both a larger and softer footprint.
Prior to getting HWH levelers, I found two of these to be the most effective in keeping the RV stable when parked. The design is very smart and the two rails of the chassis are within reach (though you need to get on the ground). I found the best single location was on the passenger side, just inboard of the step.
Measuring 79 x 54”, it’s the perfect length for the 80” bed (once you put on the fitted sheet) and it’s approximately 4” inches too wide, which is easily trimmed to size with either scissors or an electric knife. Like most foam toppers, it can absorb heat, so the perfect combination is this topper and the custom made, cool-sleeping Jensen Thermoshield Mattress Pad.
Every mattress pad is custom made for no extra charge, including for the curved shape of the J bed. The inventor and business owner was a vendor at Quartzsite and I highly recommend their product!
This tool will break your lug nuts loose and re-torque with ease, all with just a rechargeable battery. I carried a breaker bar and 4-way tire wrench for years, but I should have upgraded to this power tool long ago.
This is a well made socket set that is complete with all the basics in both metric and SAE. It also comes with extension bars, adaptors, spark plug sockets and a set of deep sockets. Lifetime warranty.
A drill has proven to be one of the most useful tools for installing a variety of mods, and this is a great drill. I’ve drilled holes in my counter tops (soap dispenser), screen door (grab bar) and fiberglass basement bays (sewer hose carrier) among other places. This combo comes with an impact ready driver.
This is a very versatile tool! Creates easy cuts in almost any surface. I've used to create precision square "holes" in wood for new light switches, etc. Quick change blades for cutting, sanding, etc. Variable speed. Great addition to my toolkit.
Since the Dewalt drill doesn’t come with drill bits, this has worked out to be a compact and complete little kit of a wide variety of bit sizes.
These drill bits work in the right angle attachment as well as the Impact Driver. They are high quality, durable and drill straight.
As a compliment to the drill bit set, these are handy for quickly backing out screws to gain access to various places like the compartment in the floor under the J bed, the water heater compartment, etc.
This is a specialty tool to drill in tight spaces, but when you need it, you’re sure glad you have it! It requires “impact ready” drill bits like these.
This is a versatile tool that is surprisingly affordable. You can use it to measure the temperature on the inside/outside walls of the RV, the exterior refrigerator vents, the interior temperatures of your fridge/freezer including the food, etc. Measures -58℉ to 716℉.
These are by far the best wire strippers I’ve ever owned! They make a perfect wire strip every time including shooting out the wire insulation, all with a single squeeze of the handles. If you don’t plan to do your own electrical mods that require wiring, these won’t be necessary.
Wire crimpers are required for 12v wiring projects in the RV, and these are very high quality. They can also cut and strip wire, but the Klein Tools version listed above are the best for stripping. If you don’t plan to do your own electrical mods that require wiring, these won’t be necessary.
Second to a drill, this is the next most useful power tool in an RV! It has numerous functions and recharges quickly. This model is cordless and features variable speeds between 5,000 and 33,000 RPM.
This endoscope has a built-in camera and LED light that will help you fish wires in tight spaces. The image is broadcast wirelessly to your smart phone or tablet’s screen via WiFi (after you download the free app).
This special took kit includes everything you need to fish wires in tight spaces in a home, car or RV. I used this to fish wires up the wall near the refrigerator to mount the EMS monitor and battery monitor.
Very high quality torque wrench for various jobs underneath the RV including the installation and proper torque of the Hellwig Sway bar and Fox Shocks.
This wrench is a perfect match for the large drain plug in the Cummins Onan QD 3200 diesel generator. The closed end makes both the removal and the tightening of the drain plug an easy job when it’s time to change your oil.
This 15/16” socket is 6-points and 3/8” drive and is compatible with both the Dewalt Mechanics tool set as well as the Atwood 6-gallon water heater drain plug. For more info on its use, click here.
A sillcock is an outdoor water spigot, faucet or valve that is attached to the exterior of a commercial or industrial building. Since there is no handle on a sillcock, this “key” is required to start and stop the flow of water. While you won’t need this at a campground, it’s a $6 investment that can help you access water almost anywhere in a pinch.
Need to take apart your dashboard to check the connections behind your radio? This kit includes the necessary tools to get the job done (and not damage your dash). Also helpful for removing the black clips to the front grille if you need to gain access to the horn.
I’ve used these on a variety of mods. Rubber grommets help make an install clean and professional-looking while also protecting wires from the vibrations inherent in an RV driving down the road.
This is my favorite tape for convenient, on-the-go repairs. It is made to stick to rough, uneven, and unforgiving surfaces. Its weather-resistant shell withstands moisture, UV rays and temperature extremes. Perfect for RV applications!
I bought two sets of these (6 baskets total). I use them in the overhead compartments above the bed area for my clothes. Each basket is like a “drawer” and contains like items. It’s easy to take down just the basket I need, take out what I want, and then stow the basket back in the compartment. This color and style matches my decor, but it’s offered in many colors and options.
I keep this basket behind the driver’s seat or passenger’s seat for shoes. This color and style matches my decor, but it’s offered in many colors and options.
This a lightweight yet sturdy plastic case to hold 6 bottles of wine. I store two of these under the seats in my J model dinette (closest to the window). I keep wine in one case, and wine glasses in the other. It keeps everything secure and separated. Since no two bottles or glasses are ever touching each other, it is both a safe and “slient” way to transport these items.
This is a convenient, collapsible and lightweight laundry basket that stores easily underneath the dinette. I use it every time I do laundry at a campground and I can’t imagine not having it!
I have three of these little shelves in my RV which use Command strip mounts. They add a nice, comfy, personalized feel inside the motorhome for my battery-operated candles and knick-knacks (which I stow before driving). These shelves come two in a pack.
I have two of these, one inside each door under the bathroom sink. They make for a great use of that space. They stick with the included Command Strips, measure 8.6” wide, 3.1” tall and 2.9” deep. They are rated for 4 lbs.
I have one of these under the kitchen sink with dish soap, sponges, etc. It sticks with the included Command Strips and are rated for 7.5 lbs. The caddy is designed to be unclipped, removed and cleaned (without disturbing the Command Strips).
This product, made by Camco, holds plastic bags for reuse. I have it attached inside one of the doors under the kitchen sink. Works great!
This hangs inside the wardrobe closet door with removable clear command hooks (not the over-the-door hooks it comes with). It adds a lot of extra space in the closet to store miscellaneous items.
www.organizedobie.com/Tablet-Pocket-Framed-Holder
This is a high quality cargo net for regular size iPad (or the iPad mini). It’s also perfect for remote controls or other miscellaneous items. The net is very tight, so it’s best to store only flat items. To save 5%, use discount code THEFITRV (in all caps) at check out.
www.organizedobie.com/4-x16--Cubby-Cover-Net
I use this along the wall under my kitchen sink. It holds back my sink covers, a cutting board and a dish drying rack — all flat against the wall. To save 5%, use discount code THEFITRV (in all caps) at check out.
www.organizedobie.com/20-x84--Barrier-Stretch-Net
On long trips, I use my cabover bed area for storage. This cargo net stretches tightly and securely across the entire span. The hooks (with screws) replace the existing screws that hold the curtain rail in place. To save 5%, use discount code THEFITRV (in all caps) at check out. To see the cargo net in my rig, click here.
Two of these fit stacked perfectly in the overhead cabinets above my dinette (with the blue handles facing out). I have odds and ends in each, and since they are clear, it’s easy to see what’s inside.
These are amazing! Perfect for hanging picture frames and other miscellaneous items on the walls of the RV without making holes.
These are amazing! Perfect for hanging picture frames and other miscellaneous items on the walls of the RV without making holes.
I use this jumbo Command Hook to hang a hair dryer inside the closet.
Various uses including attaching the hanging organizer to the inside of the wardrobe closet. I’ve also used two of these hooks to hold the shower head hose to the shower wall so it doesn’t bang around and make noise when driving.
I’ve utilized several of these in my wardrobe closet to hang a broom/dustpan, flashlight, screwdriver as well as the removable towel bar from the shower.
I attached this (via the built in magnet) to the metal wall on the inside of the electrical bay (on the left wall, just above the electrical box and generator outlet). This gives me easy access to disposable gloves when working with the sewer hose in the same general area. Click here for a photo of the installation location and horizontal orientation. Works with boxes of gloves in 200 quantity only.
This box of 200 gloves (100 pairs) fits perfectly in the magnetic glove holder. These disposable gloves are latex-free and powder-free. They seem to run small, so I would buy at least one size bigger than you think you need.
www.radpowerbikes.com/products/radrover-electric-fat-bike
I can‘t recommend this bike highly enough! It’s very well made and includes the largest motor (750w) of any e-bike on the market. It can go 25-45 miles per charge (based on how much you pedal, if at all). Its top electric speed is published as 20 mph, but there’s a menu option to increase it to 25 mph.
This bike rack is very strong and is fully compatible with both the RV and the RadRover fat tire e-bike. Not all racks can accommodate fat tires or the weight of an e-bike. Specify the 2” hitch version which is the native size on the motorhome.
A comfortable, lightweight and sturdy bike helmet.
Well made bike cover that keeps two Rad Rover e-bikes out of the elements. It covers both bikes (and tires) very well. For 2 e-bikes, you’ll need the XXL version. Anything smaller won’t fit.
This is a great product! I installed the alarms hidden underneath the seats of the e-bikes. The remote arms and disarms just like a typical car remote/lock. If you jostle the bike, it makes a warning sound — if bumped again, the loud alarm will sound! Great for peace of mind during the night.
This is a great first aid kit that has 5 stars and more than 2,000 reviews on Amazon! It fits perfectly in the “hidden” lower storage compartment of the passenger door.
With this tool, you can cut through your seatbelts and break your windows to help escape in an emergency. Includes a visor clip and/or you can hang it on your keychain.
Bear Spray with a 30-foot shooting range and belt holster. When hiking in many National Parks, or walking around campgrounds at night in bear country, carrying bear spray is highly recommended.
This is basic safety item that every RV’er should carry. This advanced 3-in-1 pepper spray also includes CS Tear Gas & UV Marking Dye. It has a range of 10 feet and a volume of 35 bursts.
Carrying a loud horn can help deter dangerous wildlife and/or alert others if you are in distress. This 115dB horn can be heard up to ½ mile away and has the capacity for 50 ¼-second blasts or 25 ½-second blasts.
The backing on my original carpet in the cab was starting to breakdown, and I was in the market for a high quality replacement. This product has exceeded my expectations! The quality, custom fit and finishing stitches are all top notch. It's available in three colors.
I had to replace my Maxx Air Fan, and this was the direct replacement. The color is “smoke” and this includes the remote control.
Quiet and efficient fan that moves a lot of air! Use it as a USB-powered fan or a cordless, rechargeable fan that will run all night. It has 4 fan speeds and it’s the last small fan you’ll ever buy!
If you have an iPhone 12 or newer, this MagSafe mount and charger will securely mount your iPhone and charge it at the same time! The charging cable connects to the mount, not the phone. Comes with built-in cooling fan to keep the phone cool while charging.
Sturdy and strong, this product held my pre-MagSafe iPhones securely right where I want it (on the left side of the built-in GPS screen). You can mount the phone in landscape or portrait mode, and rotate it anytime.
www.amazon.com/dp/B08R432BJ8
This Apple Watch charger is USB-C powered and uses Apple’s OEM charger embedded into this product. It’s not cheap, but it’s the highest quality Apple Watch charger stand I’ve ever owned. I have it above my bed and use the watch as a clock at night.
www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Maxxair/MA00A01151K.html
My RV came with a MaxxAir exhaust-only vent/fan in the bathroom, but no remote control. This remote works! Since it’s an infrared remote (not Bluetooth), it doesn’t require pairing. If your MaxxAir fan has both intake and exhaust, then you’ll want this model.
www.rvairflow.com/products/shallow-plenum-coleman-mach-3-10-15
This product is very well designed and manufactured and effectively distributes 100% of the rooftop air conditioner’s airflow through your vents while capturing more return air at the same time. Bottom-line: quicker cooling, more efficient operation of your AC unit and slightly quieter fan noise due to less turbulent air in the ceiling. I love it! Click here for a code to save 15%.
These high-quality, stainless steel cover cap sets replace the cheap plastic chrome ones on the backsplash. They look and feel more elegant and modern. I only needed 3, but this is a set of 20.
This tiny trashcan is perfect for the bathroom. It fits alongside the toilet and comes with 3 rolls of liner bags. Click the lid to open and again to latch close.
This custom-fit insulator is perfect for my 14” x 14” MaxxAir bathroom vent/fan when my rig is in storage. It helps keep the heat out in summer and the heat in during winter.
Reflectix is the easiest way to insulate the windows in your RV. From these rolls, you can cut pieces to size for each window. This insulation will keep the inside of your RV cooler in the hot months and warmer in the cold months.
Colorful, high-quality RV travel map! Add the state stickers as you travel to each state. There are many different styles and sizes available on Amazon, but I chose this one because of the colorful graphics and the 19” x 13” size which fits perfectly on the inside of my outdoor swinging storage door that accesses the area under my J bed. Also available in a larger 21” x 14.5” size.
This is small, telescoping pole that makes extending/retracting the ShadePro window awnings easy! It replaces the long white metal tool. (NOTE: this is used on after-market individual window awnings, not the main RV awning)
This is the ultimate solution for zapping mosquitos and flies (or any annoying pest) that tries to takeover the inside of your motorhome. Just wave the racket in the air and you’ll get a light and sound show! Not for the faint of heart.
I love these multi-purpose bags! They come as a set of 4, and I now have 8. I use some for tools, others for receipts, one dedicated to quarters for laundry, etc. High quality material and the colors help differentiate the contents.
If you have the Remis Cab Window Blinds, you’re probably very familiar with the flimsy and fragile top lip of the lower track. It’s the natural place to rest your arm and elbow, but the plastic will eventually crack. This product isn’t perfect, but it does a pretty good job of solving the problem!
This grab handle eliminates the instinct to pull the screen door closed by pulling on the fragile handle/lever. It mounts to the screen door with 4 screws (drill required).
This addition to the screen door enables it to be opened from the inside without sliding the black plastic door to the left. This is very helpful when there are mosquitos outside! Drill required.
This 15 lb. latch replaces the stock 10 lb. latch on the kitchen drawers under the stove. This helps prevent the drawers from accidentally opening when driving. Winnebago part: Southco C3-99-152
I used this to pad the inside lip of the bathroom door’s frame to eliminate an annoying squeak (only heard while driving, but now the sound is gone!).
I used these to touch up some imperfections in the laminate inside the RV.
This heavy-duty stainless steel mesh cover protects the furnace from flying insects that are prone to enter and build nests. It’s very easy to install, and includes the required tool.
This heavy-duty stainless steel mesh cover protects the 6-gallon Atwood water heater from flying insects that are prone to enter and build nests. It’s very easy to install, and includes the required tool.
This is a very high quality 12v noise machine that plugs directly into the USB port near the bed. Since it doesn’t require the use of the inverter, it draws less than 1/10th of 1 amp. It’s great for producing background noise to neutralize a noisy campground or a Walmart parking lot.
For those afternoon naps and bright mornings, this is the most comfortable sleep mask I’ve ever worn. Highly recommend for home and on the road!
This is a great way to stay fit on the road! These resistance bands act like weights, but altogether weigh less than two pounds. This set includes 5 resistance bands: 10lb, 20lb, 30lb, 40lb and 50lb. The bands can be combined to do any number of arm, leg, shoulder and back exercises and are suitable for any fitness level.
Although I mostly navigate via GPS, I sometimes want to explore a more scenic route as notated in this road atlas (GPS usually routes the quickest way). This large scale atlas has a lot of detail of all 50 states including sections specific to National Parks.
This midsize atlas is considerably smaller and more manageable to handle (than the large scale version). The larger one is great for trip planning, but this more compact version is great for day-to-day use. The quality and completeness of the Rand McNally maps are top notch.
A fun sweatshirt available in a variety of colors and sizes.
Want to take the ultimate shot of your epic campsite? This is an easy to fly drone with an exceptionally high quality camera for both video and stills. Among its many features, the drone will automatically fly home and land if its battery runs low.
This is not required, but it’s helpful. It creates a clean and dust-free location for your drone to takeoff and land. Place the launch pad on dirt, sand, etc. without worry of debris getting into the drone’s electric motors or camera.
Filters are for those who are more serious about their photography. This filter set includes straight ND filters for reducing shutter speeds to cinematic levels (ND4, ND8, ND16). If this doesn’t make any sense, then you don’t need them!
Fly first-person-view (FPV) with these DJI Goggles for an immersive experience!

The Easy-Start™ reduces the required start current of the rooftop AC by 65-75%, practically eliminating the jolt and associated noise/vibration of the AC compressor start. It also enables the AC to start (and then run) on a 15-amp household outlet, a small Honda (or similar) generator or even a 2,000w inverter. For a detailed description of installation, click here.
