Mod: Horn
DETAILS: Horn Upgrade
Replaced wimpy factory horn with a pair of horns that better represent the size of the vehicle. I don’t plan to use the horn often, but when I do, I hope it will get the desired attention vs. a pity laugh!
Wiring & Mounting
I bought 16 gauge yellow and white wiring, connectors and black conduit at O’Reilly Auto Parts. The horn pictured on the passenger’s side is mounted with the original bolt in the same location as the factory horn. The horn on the driver’s side is mounted with a screw/washer into an existing (and unused) plastic hole. The horns are light and feel securely mounted. Both are positioned behind the grill (which is removed in the photos).
Removing Front Grill
To remove the front grill you’ll first need to raise the hood. Then, remove the two screws and four black plastic pins across the top of the grill. The pins are delicate and can be massaged out with a small flathead screwdriver. Once the pins are in their extended position, they can be pulled out by hand (or carefully with pliers). Reach down behind the grill with your hands (from behind the top section that is now loose) and release two clips at the very bottom of the grill to remove it completely from the vehicle.
The two horns are two slightly different tones that blast at the same time.
