DETAILS: MaxxAir Fan Cleaning
Twice a year, I deep clean my MaxxAir Fan. With regular use, the fan builds up a significant amount of dust. The only way to clean it properly is to disassemble the two main components. When you’re done, it looks as good as new (see the last 3 photos for the “after” shots).
Disassembly
First, remove the mesh screen by turning the four right angle clips 180° (see photos). This will allow the screen to drop down. Then, with a 2.5mm allen wrench, loosen the set screw to remove the clear plastic fan blade assembly (see photos).
Cleaning
I use only water and paper towels to clean all components. First, use wet paper towels to clean the mesh screen and fan blades. To clean difficult to reach areas, I use wet Q-tips. It will take a couple passes to clean all surfaces thoroughly. With the fan blade still removed, open the vent and clean the underside of the rooftop plastic housing as well as wipe down the black rubber seals. Allow all components to dry completely before reassembly and use.
